How to Handle College Stress

When I first entered college, I received a packet of information and in this packet of information was a paper on ways to deal with Stress. In this blog, I decided that I would summarize that paper and then scan it and attach the links to this blog so you guys could look at it. This paper on the first side talks about what stress is. They define stress as our mental, physical, emotional, and behavioral reactions to any perceived demands or threats. They also list a few negative effects of stress including: impair our relationships, and feeling burnt out.

The next section discusses ways to reduce stress. They suggest: finding a support system, changing your attitude, be realistic, getting organized,  taking breaks, taking good care of yourself, learn to say “no”, exercise, have a hobby, slow down, laugh, and learning to relax. All of these things are discussed further in the copy of the document. The last section of the paper talks about relaxation techniques. These all are great solutions to dealing with stress.

Remember, as you deal with college stress, there are more techniques than what I discussed. These a just a few ways that you can handle stress. Remember to laugh, and take in the experience for what it is. College will have its stressful moments, but its a lot of fun as well.

How to Handle College Stress the Fun Way!

Thinking about my time in college, I realize that handling stress is something I have a problem with myself. That is why I chose this topic. It will help me as well. Stress can be handled in several different ways, so in this blog, I decided that I would talk about the fun things to do to relieve stress. Think about something that causes you to laugh.  When you are having feelings of stress, it is time to take a break from your work and laugh. The old saying says, Laughter is the best medicine.

While looking up information on this topic, I found a website that I will post at the end of this blog that I found extremely helpful. The website not only talks about how laughter relieves stress, but the other benefits of laughter. Stress can be relieved through taking a break from your work, and having a little fun. Don’t ever feel like you can’t take a break from the rough course load you will have.  A very valuable lesson I learned from one of my many talks with Marlen was the fact that I need to relax and have a good time every now and then. Laughter really can work!

Blog # 17- Reflection of the Class

This class was the most scary, tiring most amazing few months of my life. Honestly, after working with Marlen last semester and having fears about that class I figured I could handle anything. At first I was not scared, but then when I looked over the syllabus, I became a little worried about how I was going to handle everything for this class plus other classes and job and a social life. I quickly realized that having a very personal and interesting topic the work became easier to do. On top of that, I was more willing to do the work. I found that being scared did nothing for me. I learned how to put my fears aside and realize that yes I can do this work. My goal as a future researcher is to realize that it is a time consuming process. And as I writer I feel that I will find a way to connect to my topic more so that I feel motivated and willing to do the work. The proudest moment from this class was when my paper was complete. I think after this course I will take with me the fact that I can do something when I put my mind to it.  Thanks Marlen!

Blog #16- Reflect on the Creative Process

The most useful assignment to me was the peer review. It was extremely helpful and I enjoyed it. I loved hearing from other people and letting them catch things that I didn’t. Also, I loved hearing suggestions from them about what they either wanted to read about or needed more clarification on. The most useful information I got throughout this process was that I could keep someone who wasn’t an MJ fan interested. That meant more to me than any spelling, suggestion or anything. When that was told to me, it showed me that writing is a very powerful thing. The most difficult thing for me was writing the conclusion part. It was difficult because of my biases and I was having a hard time bringing it all together. The easiest was writing my methods. I knew exactly what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it from the very beginning so that was very easy for me. I believe my conclusion although the most difficult shows my ability as a writer. I think the conclusion being so difficult for me was the reason why its so good.

Blog # 15- Peer Review Projects

Wow, I was so thankful for this. It was amazing to get another point of view and another set of eyes on my paper. Kelsey definitely caught things that I missed and made wonderful suggestions that I will take to heart. I found out that I can keep someone that really isn’t an MJ fan interested. I feel like that was one of my biggest fears going into this. I was afraid people that didn’t like him wouldn’t want to read my paper or just wouldn’t be interested. That was really reassuring. While going through Kelsey’s paper, it made me think of mistakes or things I needed to add to my paper. I found that very helpful as well. I would remember something I would need to add and I would make a mental note. I am very thankful also that we have another session of this. I know that I will get more feedback and I’m so excited to hear more points of view. It really helps.

Blog # 14- Results, Discussions, Conclusions

I really like the ones that Marlen gave. They are from the same website that we have used before and its interesting how they are set up. They each give a list of information we need to include in the papers. I really think that each piece has an important view and that each paper has great purpose.

Blog # 13- Putting it all together

I feel that there are going to be a lot of grammar errors, and sentence structure things. I am so happy I have the peer review to have another set of eyes view my paper. The transitions probably need a little work and the citations. I know that the works cited page will need formatting probably. I will start working on making the paper longer and add citations, and add more information.

Blog # 12- Methods continued….

I have decided to use auto ethnography methods along with the usual research methods. I will need time to practice and watch videos to compare my dancing to Michael Jackson’s dancing. I think that using 5 years of my dancing will be enough information. I will look at certain poses and moves in my dancing and compare them to Michael Jacksons moves. I think it will be really interesting to see if in my dancing, he comes in through it. Its good that its in the past and I have no prior knowledge of my project. It will be unprecedented.

Blog #11- Methods

The document that I found compared to the one that Marlen has on the website are very different. The one that I found gives certain steps to follow and also mentions participants and how to explain them.  I really like the document that was found for us. It made me think because of the questions that should be answered in the methods section of my paper. I like the common errors because that will help me attempt to avoid them.
